Independent audience research
For my groups horror film we looked at what roles people would like to see but tried to approach it in a way that doesn't get used alot. Our main theme that we tried to create was a Subliminal theme, to trick the mind of the cast into convincing a member that someone else was dead, then leading to a killing spree due to the unbearable stress and pain it has laid onto his shoulders. We tried to include some general patterns of the traditional horror films to make sure the viewers knew what they would be watching but tried to put our own spin on it as well. The questionnaire's that we put out have helped us mould our horror film into what we wanted the final piece to look like. We asked some obvious questions such as 'Would you like there to be gore included in the film?' ones that are typically used in horror films, and ones which would only be of use to a specific audience such as 'What sort of subliminal messages would you find scary?', with these answers we then took to planning and eventually filming our trailer, we did change a lot on the way and used our initiative and minds to alter parts that we thought would better the trailer, we are also happy with the way that the trailer turned out. The audience that we felt would fit our trailer would of been the sci-fi fans, it isn't a gore-filled trailer, however it does show the villain claiming another victim, but also leaving another person wondering and eventually turning insane with mind games and subliminal messages. It doesn't follow the conventional horror storyboard's but that was the effect that we were looking for, we tried to show a side of insanity to draw the viewers in to wanting to know more about the characters life and how it pans out, and we felt the sci-fi section would tie in well with our subliminal story, also hence the film title 'Subliminal'. The definition of Science-Fiction is that it is a genre of fiction with imaginative but more or less plausible content such as paranormal abilities, technology, futuristic science and many more,we felt our idea fell into the brackets of this specific genre. Getting other peoples opinions and seeing what other people have done helped our group out as we could see what other things people are doing and whether to see if they were all going conventional routes or going down a different route, it helped is group our ideas to be more unique and unlike anyone elses.
